Time to Make the Switch?: Artificial Christmas Trees

As strange as it may seem, artificial Christmas trees were first used in Germany in the 19th century and were made of goose feathers that were dyed green! The first artificial trees in America were offered through the Sears-Roebuck catalog. Boy, things sure have changed since then! Today, extra measures are taken, along with the use of PVC and PE, to ensure that the artificial trees we use year after year, look like the real thing! Some trees are actually made with molds that were taken from Fraser Fir trees right here in our own North Carolina Mountains. With their life-like appearance, they have become so popular that they take center stage in fifty percent of homes during the holidays!

People opt for artificial Christmas trees for many reasons, but most people choose them because they don’t need watering, don’t shed needles, they are allergic to live trees, they come equipped with lights, they are easy to assemble and can be used for many years. In addition, many artificial Christmas trees are flame-retardant, making them a safe option. No matter the reason, investing in an artificial Christmas tree is something you and your family will enjoy for many years to come.

No matter which material/tree you choose, it is certain to look more life-like than ever before! These life-like Christmas trees are offered in many sizes, shapes, colors and branching structures each offering a special look that is all its own! You can choose from wide, traditional-looking trees that are full and great to decorate. Perhaps you prefer a tree that looks like you went to the mountains and cut it down yourself! If space is limited, maybe a slim tree is best for you. A lot of trees today come pre-lit, saving families the hassle of untangling strand upon strand of lights. As with many of the other attributes, many advances have been made to the lights as well. If a bulb is burned out or broken, the rest of the strand stays lit (on most pre-lit trees).

This year you will also find trees that come equipped with remote controls! Finally ladies, a remote that we can control! The tree is strung with both colored and white lights and can be changed, at will. When the kids are up, leave the multi-colored lights on and after they go to bed switch to the white lights, or go for a combination of both... just with a flick of the remote. How cool!

Aside from the aesthetic and convenience qualities offered by artificial Christmas trees, good quality trees are made of flame retardant materials, which was an issue in earlier years. In addition, they offer a sturdy metal construction that makes them easy to assemble, long lasting and helps to prevent the tree from losing its shape or getting sagging branches.
