Home Decor Trends for 2009

Bold colors, modern lines and tangy textures are screaming “STYLE” this season. Richly colored florals are a fresh change from last years muted color palette. Expect to see gorgeous pillows in wild patterns and details. Animal prints are reentering the scene and 2009 appears to be the year in which they will leave a strong statement in the home fashions industry. Traditional furniture styles are re-interpreted in a colorful and intriguing manner. Eclectic styling speaks to the need that each of us has to leave our own unique personality stamp on our home decor.

Now, you can create an “upscale” impression by changing your rooms arrangement and adding artwork alternatives. Mounting a decorative bear skinned rug or antique quilt over your fireplace instead of the typical framed black and white print creates height and shows off your interesting and unpretentious side. Mix things up in every room of your home. For instance, bath accessories have become more like traditional home decor, no longer designed for use ONLY in the bath. Even furniture pieces are not restricted to a particular space in the home. My Bombay dresser actually sets in my living room, not my bedroom. I added a tall mirror, tropical table lamp and floral arrangement to finish the look. Everyone thinks it just belongs there.

Garden centers, such as Fairview are stocked with unique and creative items to be used in home decor.Birdhouses, for instance, have been used for decades as seasonal centerpieces. Iron benches look absolutely fabulous in a bathroom adorned with towels draped over the arm and glass apothecary jars filled with bath salts and soaps add a rich, uncompromising look.

So roll up your sleeves and shake things up in your home this year. Rather than any one primary or specific trend, it all comes down to simply creating that “WOW”factor. Saturate with bold pops of color, and let your imagination take off.
