Making a Homemade Bug Catcher

This really easy craft project will not only be fun to make, but watching the critters you collect will be even more fun! Most of the items required can be found around your house and any others may be purchased at your local hardware/craft store. Let’s get started...

Materials Needed
- Plastic Mayonnaise Jar
- Fiberglass Insect Screening
- Scissors
- Floral Wire or String
- Acrylic Paints
- Stickers or Other Embellishments

Putting It All Together
First, make certain your mayonnaise jar is thoroughly clean and dry. Next, cut a piece of fiberglass screening to use as a “lid” to your jar; a seven inch square piece should suffice. The mesh screening will keep the bugs in your jar while allowing them the much needed air to breathe; never place a solid lid on your jar that does not allow air to circulate in and out of the jar or your fluttering friends will not last too long! Attach the screen to the jar either by floral wire or some type of string. Basically, anything that will be pliable enough to wrap around the round mouth of your jar and tie off. Finally, decorate your container by painting with acrylic paints, adding stickers or any other embellishment of your choice. Just make sure to leave room to see your new friends once you collect them. Let everything dry thoroughly before first use. Enjoy!
