Materials Needed
- Styrofoam Cup
- Markers, Paint, Paper, Glue
- Pebbles
- Potting Soil
- Grass Seed (Wheatgrass is great)
- Spray Bottle
- Newspaper
- Sunny Window
- Flower Pot (if you are making a container, too)
Putting It All Together
First, spread some newspaper on your work station and have your little ones decorate their styrofoam cups with markers, paint, paper and glue (whatever you choose!) to create a “face” for their grass seed person. Once the cup is decorated and has dried, place a few small pebbles in the bottom of the cup to help with drainage. Next, fill the cup with potting soil and sprinkle a few grass seeds on top of the soil and cover with a very light layer of soil. Finally, wet with a spray bottle (be sure not to get the face wet!) and place in a sunny spot. It is important not to let the soil dry out, as the grass seed needs water for germination. Within no time, your little one can enjoy watching the hair grow on their “person!” If it get’s too long, simply give it a quick groom with some sheers.
