Make Leaf Wrapping Paper

This simple, inexpensive project is a great way to enjoy a cool day indoors with your children, grandchildren, niece, nephew, whomever! It can, however, get a bit messy so lay down some newspaper and adults, supervise! Let’s get started...

Materials Needed

- Newspaper
- Paper of Choice
- Different Colored Acrylic or Finger Paints
- Leaves
- Pens, Markers, Embellishments

Putting It All Together
First, you need to select some leaves for your masterpiece! Hardwood leaves, such as maple and oak, work well. Fern leaves work well, too, offering some nice, feathery texture. Leaves should be dry and flat; pressing the leaves for a few days will certainly make them easier to work with!

Once your leaves are ready, you will need to decide what type of paper you would like to use. Newspaper makes a nice starting point, to test patterns and colors and to see what you like. Once you’ve tested the leaves, you may want a more finished look; a single colored wrapping paper or brown craft paper both will accomplish this task.

Next, is paint selection. Honestly, acrylic paints will work best, but for little ones, you may feel better using finger paints, which is fine, too. Secure your work area with newspaper to keep cleanup to a minimum. Spread your paint on the backside of the leaves (where the veins are most prominent) and press gently but firmly against your paper. Continue your pattern throughout until you have the look you desire. Let the artist in your soar... add some embellishments with markers and pens, glitter, whatever! The most important thing, have fun with your little ones! Once finished, let your paper dry completely to avoid smudging the patterns.

Have Fun!
