‘Black Velvet’ Petunia
A new petunia being released this year, ‘Black Velvet’ (pictured above) has been receiving a lot of hype and with good reason. As the world’s first black petunia, it exhibits trailing qualities like many other petunias and opens the door to contrasting color combinations that have never before been available. Imagine planting ‘Black Velvet’ as a backdrop for the delicate white blooms of the ‘Diamond Frost’ Euphorbia. Or plant it in a hanging basket with other trailing petunias to contrast the differing colors. This year come in and see what ‘Black Velvet’ can do for your garden.
‘Phantom’ Petunia
Another new petunia that is taking the gardening world by storm. Take the deep black qualities of ‘Black Velvet’ and add a vibrant yellow star-shaped center and the ‘Phantom’ petunia is what you get. ‘Phantom’ grows in a mounding/trailing habit and is ideal for container gardening, hanging baskets and as a ground cover in the landscape. Look for ‘Phantom’ in Fairview’s greenhouses for a spring experience you won’t soon forget.
‘Pinstripe’ Petunia
A new petunia with a similar style to the ‘Phantom’ petunia, however, the ‘Pinstripe’ petunia exhibits a creamy yellow star-shaped center with highlights of violet. Like many petunias, ‘Pinstripe’ thrives in container gardens, hanging baskets and as a ground cover in an annual bed. Another hot ticket item this spring, look for the sophisticated style of ‘Pinstripe’ in Fairview’s greenhouses.
‘Pretty Much Picasso’ Petunia
A petunia that is making it’s second year debut, ‘Pretty Much Picasso’ won the hearts of many gardeners last year and will be returning again this spring. It’s blooms feature a vibrant pink center and it’s one-of-a-kind green outside edge give ‘Pretty Much Picasso’ a halo appearance. Perfect for container gardens and hanging baskets, ‘Pretty Much Picasso’ is certain to leave the whole neighborhood gossiping.
These beautiful, unique petunias are blooming and ready at Fairview and are available in several container sizes as well as hanging baskets. Petunias enjoy full sun to part sun, however, they tend to bloom more prolifically in full sun. It’s important not to let them dry out (petunias like to be watered everyday and sometimes twice a day in hotter months) and fertilize every two to three weeks. Remember life’s a garden... dig it!
