Almost resembling a large viola, the Plentifall Pansy comes in winter color choices of yellows, whites, blues, purples and mixes of all of the above. After growing several of these plants last year, we can tell you first hand that these pansies look just as stunning planted in solid colors as they do planted in mixes. In hanging baskets, the Plentifall Pansy offers a cascade of wintertime blooms that is unsurpassed.
Though when first planted, these pansies may remind you of an ordinary classic garden pansy. However, as they grow taller they begin to trail and spill over the edge of their container. To be sure your Plentifalls are looking their best through the next several months of cold weather, be sure to fertilize them regularly. We recommend a specially formulated bedding plant fertilizer that has a high phosphorous content (middle number). At Fairview we offer a Ferti-lome product that has a fertilizer ratio of 7-22-8. Note the high middle number; it is this high phosphorous number that is going to give your pansies the boost they need to stay in bloom. On average, you should fertilize your pansies every three to four weeks during the winter months.
After having much success with Plentifall Pansies last winter, it is very exciting to not only be growing them again, but to be able to grow them with the knowledge we gained last year. We found that when planted early (usually by the end of October or beginning of November), the Plentifall Pansy performs best. If planted too late (when the weather really turns cold), they have a hard time gathering the energy they need to grow big and full. So plant your Plentifall Pansies early this year and make your thumb a little bit greener. Another great feature about this plant is how well it holds its color. Even through the harshest winter months, all it took was regular watering (don’t let them dry out) and a few applications of fertilizer to keep them healthy and happy.
The Plentifall Pansy is an absolutely amazing addition to our cool season plant palette and has taken much of the guesswork out of winter container gardening. A versatile plant, the Plentifall Pansy is guaranteed to be a favorite for years to come. So stop by Fairview today to check out the new Plentifall Pansy and see what all the fuss is about!
